Year 11- Parent Information Revision Evening - Tuesday 24th October

We would like to invite you to Outwood Academy Bydales on Tuesday 24th October 2023 at 6:00pm to 6:45pm to discuss how we can work together to support and achieve the best outcome for your child in their final year of Secondary School.

The evening will consist of presentations by myself, Miss Pressley and Mrs Boyes. Miss Pressley is overseeing Year 11 study skills and Mrs Boyes is the Year 11 Learning Manager. There will also be short talks facilitated by the Head of English Mrs Townsend and the Head of Maths Mrs Charlton. We would like to talk to you about what you can do to help support your child achieve their potential this year.

Year 11 have made a positive return to school ready for their final year at Outwood Academy Bydales. As we are all aware this year group has been significantly impacted by the pandemic and every second of learning in Year 11 will count to ensuring any gaps in learning are closed. More than ever we need to work together to ensure all Year 11 students access the support available within school.

Students at Outwood Academy Bydales achieved fantastic GCSE results. For example, 62% of students achieved a grade 5 or above in both English and Maths, and 83% a grade 4 or above in both. Achievement in English was strong with 79% of students achieving a grade 5 or above and 89% securing a grade 4 standard pass. In Maths 66% of students achieved a grade 5 or above and 85% secured a grade 4 standard pass. These were the highest results across the local authority in all of these measures, and support from parents and carers really helps our students continue to achieve outstanding results. Encouragement and support from home with the completion of homework, and the encouragement to attend Enrichment helps to ensure our students succeed. This year we are hoping to have the same fantastic response again from students and their families.

This information evening will be followed by a further event at the start of the next academic term to discuss subject specific student revision. It is at this second event your child will receive resources and tips from their teachers on how best to revise in their different subjects.
